Hammond 196M4 Dual-Coil 20mH 4A / 5mH 8A Chassis Choke

The 196M4 is a dual-coil heavy current chassis mount choke rated 20 mH at 4 A DC series connected, or 5 mH at 8 A DC parallel connected. It gives a compact, flexible filter inductor for lower-current DC supplies.

Each winding has a listed resistance of 0.11 ohms; no insulation class is given. Built with the open core and coil construction of the series and 4-slot bracket mounting, the 196M4 measures A 3.00 in (76 mm), B 2.87 in (73 mm), C 2.50 in (64 mm), D 2.50 in (64 mm) and E 2.50 in (64 mm), with 0.20 x 0.38 in (5 x 10 mm) mounting slots.

The 196M4 weighs 3.3 lbs (1.50 kg).

Across the 195-196 Series, inductance and resistance are held to a 15% tolerance, inductance is measured at rated D.C. current, and connections are made to a screw terminal or heavy copper tabs with holes. The series is rated for operation from -40C to 85C and storage from -40C to 105C, with a recommended maximum operating voltage of 600 VAC winding to core. Chokes in the series are hipot tested at 2,500 VAC. The chokes are UL approved under Type 3AH, E207860, 30V7, and this part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.
