The 196B50 is a dual-coil heavy current chassis mount choke that can be wired two ways: series connected for 0.5 mH at 50 A DC, or parallel connected for 0.125 mH at 100 A DC. The dual-coil 196 Series gives designers that extra versatility from a single part, useful for high current power supply filtering.

Each winding measures 0.018 ohms. The drawing details the four-lug layout (Lug 1 and Lug 2 on top, Lug 3 and Lug 4 on the bottom): for series connection use Lug 1 to Lug 4 with Lugs 2 and 3 joined; for parallel connection use Lug 1 to Lug 2 with Lugs 1+3 and 2+4 joined. Each winding is 0.125 mH ±15% at 50 A DC, and DCR is 0.018 ohms ±20% at 20°C per winding. The drawing rates 750 VAC max. and 600 VDC max., lists Class B 130°C operating temperature, and specifies 2500 V, 60 Hz, 1 second hipot between each winding and core and between windings.

The open core and coil assembly uses 4-slot bracket mounting. Overall dimensions are A 4.50 in (114 mm), B 4.50 in (114 mm), C 3.75 in (95 mm), D 3.75 in (95 mm) and E 3.00 in (76 mm), with 0.28 x 0.56 in (7 x 14 mm) mounting slots. It weighs 8 lbs (3.63 kg) and the drawing label states Made in Canada.

Across the 195-196 Series, inductance and resistance are held to a 15% tolerance, inductance is measured at rated D.C. current, and connections are made to a screw terminal or heavy copper tabs with holes. The series is rated for operation from -40C to 85C and storage from -40C to 105C, with a recommended maximum operating voltage of 600 VAC winding to core. Chokes in the series are hipot tested at 2,500 VAC. The chokes are UL approved under Type 3AH, E207860, 30V7, and this part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.

Ideal For

  • 100 A DC power supply filtering (parallel connection)
  • 50 A DC filtering with higher inductance (series connection)
  • High current power supply filtering
