Hammond 186F24 96VA 24V C.T. Dual Primary Chassis Mount Transformer

The 186F24 is a 96 VA open-style, chassis mount power transformer from the 186 Series with a dual 115/230 VAC primary, so the same part can be wired for either mains voltage. Its center-tapped secondary is rated 24V C.T. RMS at 4 A, making it a fit for OEM engineers and panel builders who need a compact low voltage AC source inside equipment that may ship to 115 V or 230 V markets. Either primary operates on 50/60 Hz.

Construction follows the 186-187 Series design: an economical open style, channel frame for chassis mounting, and split bobbin construction that eliminates the need for an electrostatic shield. Insulation material is Class B (130 C), and the design keeps temperature rise from exceeding Class A for longer life. Each unit is hi-pot tested to 2 KV RMS.

The part drawing gives the wiring: for 115V, connect pin 1 to pin 4 and pin 2 to pin 5, with input voltage on pins 1 to 2; for 230V, connect pin 2 to pin 4, with input voltage on pins 1 to 5. At 115V, 60Hz, no-load secondary voltage is 26.45V (±2%) across terminals 6-10 and 13.23V (±2%) on each half of the center tap, and exciting current is 150mA maximum. The drawing also lists terminal pins in brass.

Connections are made through combination solder or quick connect terminals. If your design only ever sees 115 VAC, the single-primary equivalent with the same secondary rating is 187F24.
