Hammond 165Z3 50A 3V Center-Tapped Filament Transformer, 150VA

The 165Z3 is the highest-current model in the 165 Series: a 150 VA chassis-mount transformer that steps a 115 VAC, 60 Hz single primary down to 3.0 V center-tapped RMS at a full 50 A. It is aimed at OEM engineers and repair technicians who need a very low secondary voltage with heavy current capability from one open-frame part.

Construction follows the 165 Series design: an open-style, four-hole frame for chassis mounting, a dual bobbin winding arrangement that needs no electrostatic shield, and Class B insulation rated 130 degrees C. Connections are made through minimum 6 in long leads or copper tabs with holes, and every unit is Hi-Pot tested at 2,000 V RMS.

With only 3.0 V C.T. on the secondary, the 165Z3 trades voltage for current, which is why its secondary is rated at 50 A while its power rating stays at 150 VA. Its frame is slightly larger than the smallest 165 models, measuring 3.75 in (95 mm) at dimension A and 3.13 in (80 mm) at dimension B, and it ships at 6 lbs (2.72 kg).
