Hammond 164G24 12VA 24V Center-Tapped PCB Transformer, 115V Primary

Part number 164G24 is a 12VA, 115V single-primary power transformer for P.C. board mounting. Built on a low-profile split bobbin and rated for 50/60 Hz, it gives electronics designers and OEM builders a 24V C.T. secondary that solders straight onto the board. In series the secondaries deliver 24V with centre tap at 0.5A, and in parallel 12V at 1.0A.

Two secondary windings sit side by side on the split bobbin rather than concentrically, which keeps coupling between primary and secondary low and removes any need for an electrostatic shield. It carries Class B insulation (130 degrees C) and a 2,500V RMS hipot rating. The windings are designed so that all of them must be used.

On the series specification sheet the G-size body is 1.88 in long, 1.56 in wide and 1.50 in high, weighing 0.7 lb. The 12VA size uses two-hole mounting with #4 screws (mounting screws are not provided) in addition to its industry-standard P.C. board pins. The part drawing for 164G24 gives L 1.875" ±0.030, W 1.563" ±0.030 and H 1.410" ±0.030, with #4 mounting screw.

Its drawing lists factory electrical data: exciting current 70.8mA max. @ 115V, 60Hz, pin 1 - pin 4; secondary no-load voltage 13.73V ±2% on each winding; DC resistance 52.43 ±20% (pins 1-4) and 1.577 ±20% (each secondary) at 20°C; and a primary-to-secondary hipot of 2500V, 60Hz, 1 sec. Each winding is labelled 12V, 0.5A.

The transformer is c UL us recognized and listed as RoHS and REACH compliant. Where a design must run from 115V or 230V, the dual-primary equivalent in the same series is 162G24.
