Hammond 164F12 6VA 12.6V Center-Tapped PCB Transformer, 115V Primary

The 164F12 is a 6VA low-voltage power transformer designed to mount directly on a printed circuit board. It has a single 115V primary rated for 50/60 Hz operation and a low-profile, split bobbin construction, making it a fit for OEM engineers and board designers who need a 12.6V centre-tapped secondary in a compact footprint. The secondaries produce 12.6V centre-tapped at 0.5A in series, or 6.3V at 1.0A when the two windings are paralleled.

Construction uses dual secondary windings, non-concentrically wound, which gives low primary-to-secondary coupling without the need for an electrostatic shield. The insulation system is Class B, rated 130 degrees C, with a 2,500V RMS hipot. All windings are intended to be used together in either the series or the parallel connection.

On the series specification sheet the F-size body is 1.63 in long, 1.31 in wide and 1.31 in high, weighing 0.44 lb. The 6VA size uses two-hole mounting with #4 screws (mounting screws are not provided) in addition to its industry-standard P.C. board pins. The part drawing for 164F12 gives L 1.625" ±0.030, W 1.313" ±0.030 and H 1.313" ±0.030, with #4 mounting screw.

Its drawing lists factory electrical data: exciting current 46.8mA max. @ 115V, 60Hz, pin 1 - pin 4; secondary no-load voltage 7.590V ±2% on each winding; DC resistance 127.9 ±20% (pins 1-4) and 1.084 ±20% (each secondary) at 20°C; and a primary-to-secondary hipot of 2500V, 60Hz, 1 sec. Each winding is labelled 6.3V, 477mA.

The transformer is c UL us recognized and listed as RoHS and REACH compliant. Where a design must run from 115V or 230V, the dual-primary equivalent in the same series is 162F12.
