Hammond 1598DGY 180x205x63mm Flame Retardant Gray Instrument Case

The 1598DGY is a light gray flame retardant ABS instrument case from the 1598 Series, a desktop electronic instrument enclosure built around a clam shell body with separate end panels and ideally suited for mounting printed circuit boards. This 1598D size measures 7.09 in (180 mm) long, 8.07 in (205 mm) wide and 2.48 in (63 mm) deep in the series ordering table, which makes it a broad case with room for a board up to about 166 x 191 mm.

The halves are molded from flame retardant ABS plastic rated UL94 V-0, and they are secured with M3 x 0.5 x 10 mm (0.39") Phillips machine screws threaded into tapped integral brass bushings, so the case stands up to applications where repetitive assembly and disassembly are required. The front and rear panels are 1.6 mm (0.064") brushed aluminum (alloy 5052-H32) with protective paper on one side. The enclosure is designed to meet IP54.

Inside, two sets of vertical 1.5 mm (0.062") PC board guides are molded into the front and rear of the case halves, and integral horizontal PC card mounts sit on Eurocard centers. The maximum board size is 166.30 mm [6.547 in] x 191.48 mm [7.539 in], aligned on bosses with 8 mounting holes of Ø3.51 mm [.138 in]. The molded standoffs take #6 x 1/4" (6.4 mm) screws, which are not included; order 1598ATS100 (100-pack). Inner height is 59.00 mm [2.323 in].

The purchased assembly includes the top and bottom cover, front and rear end panels (aluminum), 2 cover screws and 4 rubber feet. A tilt bail kit, 1598TH2, is listed for this size. Enclosures can be factory modified with milling, drilling and printing, and STEP or IGES solid models are available from the factory.
