Hammond 1590WU Natural 120x120x59mm IP65 Diecast Aluminum Box

The 1590WU is a water-tight diecast aluminum enclosure from the 1590 Series, built for electronics designers, OEM engineers and integrators who need a rugged instrument housing rated IP65. It offers a square 120 mm body 59 mm tall that takes a board up to 111.74 mm square.

Box and lid are made from diecast aluminum alloy, a material the manufacturer notes is tough yet easy to machine. Lap-joint construction where the lid meets the box helps keep out dust and splashing water. This is the unpainted natural version: the diecast aluminum is vibra finished for a smooth surface with no sharp edges; diecast aluminum is tough yet easy to machine if you need openings for connectors or controls.

The part page lists the size as 4.72 in x 4.72 in x 2.32 in (120 mm x 120 mm x 59 mm). On the drawing the box measures 120.00 mm [4.724 in] long, 120.00 mm [4.724 in] wide and 58.60 mm [2.307 in] high, with inside dimensions of 112.65 mm [4.435 in] by 112.65 mm [4.435 in] and an inside height of 53.60 mm [2.110 in]. Side walls have a low draft angle of 2° or less for easier PC board mounting, and the lid is 0.16" (4 mm) high.

This version has no mounting flanges, so the housing is a plain box and lid; wall-mounting variants with a flanged lid or a flanged bottom plate are listed separately in the same size.

Each 1590WU ships as a box, lid and 4 cover screws that thread into factory-tapped 6-32 UNC holes, plus a silicone gasket supplied loose inside the enclosure rather than pre-installed. The drawing recommends 25-30 cN.m [36-43 ozf.in] of screw torque with the gasket fitted. Replacement gaskets are sold as kit 1590QGASKET. It is RoHS and REACH compliant, and weighs 0.78 lbs (0.35 kg) shipped.
