Hammond 1590A Natural 93 x 39 mm Diecast Aluminum Box, IP54

The 1590A is a small, general purpose diecast aluminum enclosure from the Hammond 1590 Series, measuring 3.65 x 1.52 x 1.22 in (93 x 39 x 31 mm). It is a practical housing for electronics hobbyists, instrument builders and OEM engineers who need a rugged metal box for a narrow circuit board, sensor or small control.

The box and lid are rugged diecast aluminum alloy that is tough yet easy to machine. This is the unpainted natural version, vibra finished for a smooth surface with no sharp edges, ready to machine, paint or leave bare. Lap joint construction where lid and box meet protects against access of dust and splashing water, and side walls have a low draft angle of 2° or less for easy P.C. board mounting.

The drawing gives inside dimensions of 87.80 mm [3.457 in] long, 33.70 mm [1.327 in] wide and 27.40 mm [1.079 in] high, and Hammond lists maximum P.C. board dimensions of 32.7 mm and 86.8 mm. The lid is held by 4 cover screws in factory-tapped 6-32 UNC holes; recommended torque is 50-55 cN.m [71-78 ozf.in], or 25-30 cN.m [36-43 ozf.in] with a gasket.

As the standard version without mounting flanges, the 1590A is designed to meet IP54. It can be upgraded to IP65 with the 1590AGASKET kit, which contains two pre-formed silicone gaskets with adhesive backing applied to the lid, so the box can be machined or painted first and gasketed later; Hammond also advises ordering watertight screws (stainless steel with o-ring) for the conversion.
