Hammond 1458VE3B 8x10x3 in Vented Steel Instrument Case, Gulf Blue

The 1458VE3B is a 8 x 10 x 3 in (203 x 254 x 76 mm) steel instrument enclosure from the 1458 Series, with vented top and bottom covers finished in gulf blue powder coat (RAL 5021). It is aimed at electronics designers, OEM engineers and technicians who need a sturdy desktop case with easy-to-machine front and rear panels for test gear, controllers and custom instruments.

The top and bottom case are heavy duty 18 gauge steel, supplied here with vented top and bottom covers. The front and rear panels are 0.064 in thick aluminum, one satin black and one contempra grey, and because the design is symmetrical either end panel can serve as the front or the rear. The listed material is steel with aluminum end panels.

It measures 8.00 in wide by 10.00 in deep and only 3.00 in high, giving the long 10 in depth of the E size in the lowest-profile height the table lists for it. Shipping weight is 3.21 lbs (1.46 kg). If you want the same size without ventilation, the solid top and bottom version is 1458E3B; the satin black vented version is 1458VE3.

The purchased assembly includes the top, bottom, a black end plate, a grey end plate, 8 enclosure screws and 4 rubber feet. The drawing recommends a cover screw torque of 125-150 cN-m (11-13.3 lbf-in). Replacement nickel plated #6-32 x 1/4 in self-tapping enclosure screws are part number 1421J8 and rubber feet are 1421T3. Enclosures can be factory modified (milling, drilling, printing), and solid models are available in .stp or .x_t format.
