Hammond 1458E5B 8x10x5 in Gulf Blue Steel Instrument Enclosure

The 1458E5B is a 8 in wide x 10 in deep x 5 in high instrument enclosure from the Hammond 1458 Steel Instrument series, built for designers, OEM engineers and technicians who need a sturdy metal case for electronics. It has an 8 in wide footprint that runs 10 in deep, giving extra length front to rear, with a 5 in (127 mm) overall height.

The case is heavy duty 18 gauge steel. The top and bottom halves are finished in Gulf Blue powder coat (RAL 5021), listed as satin blue in the series ordering table. This version has solid top and bottom panels; the same 8 x 10 x 5 in size is also offered with vented panels. The front and rear panels are 0.064 in thick aluminum that is easy to machine; each enclosure comes with one satin black and one contempra grey panel, and because the design is symmetrical either end panel can serve as the front or the rear.

Nominal size is 8 in x 10 in x 5 in (203 mm x 254 mm x 127 mm). According to the 1458E5B drawing, each end plate measures 177.98 x 121.46 mm [7.01 x 4.78 in]. The purchased assembly includes the top, bottom, black end plate, grey end plate, 8 enclosure screws and 4 rubber feet. Shipping weight is 4.19 lbs (1.90 kg).

Assembly uses 6-32 Philips nickel plated screws, with a recommended cover screw torque of 125-150 cN-m (11-13.3 lbf-in). Replacement enclosure screws are part number 1421J8 and rubber feet are 1421T3 (Pkg 24). The enclosure can be factory modified (milling, drilling, printing), and solid models are available in .stp or .x_t format. It is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships in shrink wrap.
