Hammond 1458D3B 8x8x3 in Steel Instrument Case, Gulf Blue

The 1458D3B is a 8.00 in wide, 8.00 in deep, 3.00 in high steel instrument enclosure with a solid top and bottom powder coated in Gulf Blue RAL 5021. It is the lowest of the three 8 in square sizes in the 1458 range, and a practical housing for flat bench equipment, controllers and larger circuit boards in a slim housing. Electronics designers, OEM engineers and technicians use the 1458 style where a sturdy steel shell and machinable aluminum end panels are needed.

The top and bottom halves are heavy duty 18 gauge steel. The two end panels are easy-to-machine 0.064 in thick aluminum, one satin black and one contempra grey, and the symmetrical design lets either end panel serve as the front or the rear. That makes it straightforward to cut connector, switch and display openings in aluminum rather than steel.

The 1458D3B is supplied as an assembly of top, bottom, black end plate, grey end plate, 8 enclosure screws and 4 rubber feet. The 6-32 Philips screws are nickel plated, and Hammond recommends a cover screw torque of 125-150 cN-m (11-13.3 lbf-in). Replacement nickel plated #6-32 x 1/4 in self-tapping enclosure screws are part 1421J8, and spare rubber feet are 1421T3 (pack of 24).

Need custom cut-outs? Hammond states the enclosure can be factory modified (milling, drilling, printing) and offers solid models in .stp or .x_t. The 1458D3B ships in shrink wrap at 2.65 lbs (1.20 kg), is RoHS and REACH compliant, and is also offered as 1458D3 in satin black and in vented-top versions (1458VD3, 1458VD3B).
