Hammond 1457J1601BK 160x84x28mm IP65 Extruded Aluminum Enclosure, Black

The 1457J1601BK is a slim, 160 mm long watertight enclosure built around an 84 mm wide, 28.50 mm tall extruded aluminum body. It is aimed at OEM engineers and integrators who need to protect a long, narrow circuit board - up to 159 x 79 mm per the part data - in a low-profile housing designed to meet IP65, with plain end panels that keep the footprint no longer than the enclosure itself.

This version has a black powder coat extrusion; the drawing describes it as a black powder painted box and end panels. The one-piece extruded body is made from 6063 aluminum with a minimum wall thickness of 0.06" (1.5 mm), and the end panels are ADC-12 Diecast Aluminum with a black powder paint finish that is easy to machine for connectors, glands or switches. A 0.75 mm (.030") deep recess on the body accepts a label or membrane keypad. The same size with a clear anodized body is 1457J1601.

Nominal size is 6.3 in x 3.3 in x 1.12 in (160 mm x 84 mm x 28 mm). On the drawing the assembled length with end panels is 171.15 mm [6.738 in], the end panels measure 86.96 mm [3.424 in] wide by 31.45 mm [1.238 in] high, the extrusion is 28.50 mm [1.122 in] high and the inside face-to-face dimension is 160.00 mm [6.299 in]. PC boards mount horizontally by sliding into internal slots; the drawing states it fits a 160mm (6.299") X 80mm (3.149") PCB and the part page gives a maximum board of 159 mm x 79 mm. Flat end panels suit bench or free-standing use; the flanged equivalent is 1457J1602BK.

Each assembly includes the box, two end panels, two closed-cell polyethylene foam end plate gaskets, #6 Taptight stainless steel screws with rubber O-rings and self-adhesive rubber feet. The thread-forming screws are black zinc plated for corrosion protection to ASTM B633-13, with a recommended torque of 5 lbf/in; replacement screws come in packs of 100 as 1457MS100. The part is REACH and RoHS compliant, and ships shrink wrapped at 0.23 lbs (0.10 kg).
