Hammond 1455NHD1601BK 160x111x61mm Black Anodized Finned Enclosure

The 1455NHD1601BK is a black-anodized, heat dissipating extruded aluminum enclosure from the 1455HD series. The 1455NHD body has cooling fins along its length and two removable wall-mounting flanges, so it suits OEM engineers and integrators who need to house P.C. boards or equipment that give off heat, on a wall or on a shelf. The manufacturer lists it as a 160 mm finned enclosure.

The enclosure measures 6.3 in x 4.37 in x 2.39 in (160 mm x 111 mm x 61 mm). The series ordering table gives 160.00 mm long, 111.00 mm wide and 60.76 mm high, and the drawing shows a length tolerance of 160.00 ±0.50 mm [6.299 ±0.020 in]. P.C. boards slide horizontally into slots extruded into the body. The extrusion is designed for a 100 mm wide PC board, and the part lists a maximum P.C. board size of 159 mm long by 97 mm wide.

The body and end plates are extruded aluminum (6063 per the drawing) with a black anodized finish. The body is in two pieces: a belly plate removes easily for access to the top of the interior. The assembly includes the box, aluminum end panels, #6 Taptight screws and mounting flanges. Eight black assembly screws match the panels and body; the recommended screw torque is 5 lbf.in (56.5 cN.m). Each end plate has 4 x Ø3.50 mm through holes, countersunk Ø5.75 mm x 90°.

The 1455HD spec sheet gives a calculated thermal transfer coefficient (Rsa) of 1.58 °C/W for a 160 mm 1455NHD enclosure, with an outside surface area of 1.376 ft². This value applies to vertical mounting with natural convection; for horizontal mounting, add 15% to the °C/W value. The manufacturer notes that real thermal performance depends on mounting position, temperature and air velocity, and that users should check suitability for their application.

Replacement end panels come as 1455NALBK-10 (10 pack), replacement screws as 1455MS100BK (quantity 100), and the clear version is 1455NHD1601.
