Hammond 1455KHD1201 120x86x51mm Clear Anodized Finned Enclosure

The 1455KHD1201 is a clear-anodized, heat dissipating extruded aluminum enclosure from the 1455HD series. The 1455KHD body has cooling fins along its length and two removable wall-mounting flanges, so it suits OEM engineers and integrators who need to house P.C. boards or equipment that give off heat, on a wall or on a shelf. The manufacturer lists it as a 120 mm finned enclosure.

The enclosure measures 4.72 in x 3.39 in x 2.01 in (120 mm x 86 mm x 51 mm). The series ordering table gives 120.00 mm long, 86.02 mm wide and 51.02 mm high, and the drawing shows a length tolerance of 120.00 ±0.50 mm [4.724 ±0.020 in]. P.C. boards slide horizontally into slots extruded into the body. The extrusion is designed for a 75 mm wide PC board, and the part lists a maximum P.C. board size of 119 mm long by 74 mm wide.

The body and end plates are extruded aluminum (6063 per the drawing) with a clear anodized finish. The body is in two pieces: a belly plate removes easily for access to the top of the interior. The assembly includes the box, aluminum end panels, #6 Taptight screws and mounting flanges. Eight clear assembly screws match the panels and body; the recommended screw torque is 5 lbf.in (56.5 cN.m). Each end plate has 4 x Ø3.50 mm through holes, countersunk Ø5.75 mm x 90°. The enclosure is rated IP54.

The spec sheet includes a thermal transfer coefficient (°C/W) vs. enclosure length chart for the 1455KHD profile. Values apply to vertical mounting with natural convection, and horizontal mounting adds 15% to the °C/W value. Hammond notes that thermal performance also depends on mounting position, temperature and air velocity.

Hammond can factory-modify these enclosures (milling, drilling, printing) and offers STEP and IGES solid models. Replacement end panels come as 1455KAL-10 (10 pack), replacement screws as 1455MS100 (quantity 100), and the black version is 1455KHD1201BK. The 1455KHD1201 ships shrink-wrapped at 0.64 lbs (0.29 kg).
