Hammond 1453B 6x6x9.5 in Heavy Duty Vented Steel Enclosure

The 1453B is the smallest heavy duty vented steel instrument enclosure in the 1453 series, at 6 in high, 6 in wide and 9.5 in deep (152 x 152 x 241 mm). It is built to house heavy, heat producing items such as power supplies in a compact square-fronted case. It is intended for electronics builders, OEM engineers and test or lab teams who need an all-steel case that manages heat.

Construction is all steel and heavy duty. The drawing specifies a 16 gauge steel base and an 18 gauge steel cover vented for cooling. The top half is an upside down U shape for easy removal; the bottom half is also U shaped with a fold on all sides, including front and back, for extra strength and for mounting the top case. The heavily ventilated top has a slant that also serves as a lifting area at the front and back. The part listing gives the colour as gray, while the series sheet and drawing describe a beige powder coat.

The ordering table lists the 1453B at 6.00 in (152 mm) high, 6.00 in (152 mm) wide and 9.50 in (241 mm) deep. The top lip extends 0.75 in (19 mm) on both sides, adding 1.5 in (38 mm) to the total depth, and the drawing shows 279.40 mm [11.000 in] overall with an inside length of 238.40 mm [9.386 in]. Shipping weight is 5.06 lbs (2.30 kg), boxed.

The bottom is solid except for four holes for the heavy duty rubber feet. The assembly includes base, cover, nickel plated #8-32 x 1/4 in self-tapping cover screws (Pkg 8), four 0.75 in (19 mm) screw-on rubber feet (1421T7) and #8-32 x 3/8 in feet screws. Recommended cover screw torque is 14-15 lbf-in (160-170 cN-m). Factory modification and .stp or .x_t solid models are available, and it is RoHS and REACH compliant.
