Hammond 1182P240 1000 VA Toroid Transformer, 240V Single Secondary

The 1182P240 is a 1000 VA toroidal power transformer with a single 240 V secondary rated 4.17 A. It suits OEM engineers and panel builders who need a 240 V output from either a 117 VAC or 234 VAC supply, with the low profile, light weight and low stray magnetic flux of a toroid core.

Unlike the dual-secondary models in the 1182 family, this unit has one secondary winding (RED-BLU) alongside two 117 V primaries (BLK-WHT and BRN-ORN). Both primary and secondary leads are #16 TEW, brought out 8"-9" and stripped 0.5" minimum. Voltage regulation is listed at 2.80% in the series table. The toroid has an open center and is supplied with two 0.093" x 4.75" OD rubber washers, a 16GA x 4.30" OD steel mounting washer and a 3/8-16 bolt 3.50" long with lock washer and hex nut. Shipping weight is 16.5 lbs (7.48 kg).

Every transformer in the 1182 series is manufactured using Class B (130 degree C) materials and hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS between primary and secondary. The series is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (UL file #E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and C22.2 #66.2-6 (CSA file #209651), and self-declared as evaluated to applicable sections of IEC/EN61558-1 and IEC/EN61558-2-4. This part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.

Wiring is straightforward: the primaries go in parallel for 117 VAC operation or in series for 234 VAC, at 50 or 60 Hz, and a connection sheet ships with the unit. All windings should be engaged (series or parallel) or the unit connected as an autotransformer. Because of the toroid's magnetic properties, inrush at switch-on can sometimes blow a fuse or trip a breaker, although the overload rarely lasts longer than half a cycle; the manufacturer advises a slow-blow fuse, time-delay breaker or soft-start circuitry.
