Hammond 1182M12 80 VA Toroid Power Transformer, 12V/24V C.T.

The 1182M12 is a 80 VA toroidal power transformer in the 1182 Series, combining a dual 117/234 VAC, 50/60 Hz primary with two identical secondary windings. It suits OEM designers, equipment builders and repair technicians who need a low-voltage 12V or 24V C.T. C.T. supply from either 117 VAC or 234 VAC mains.

Each secondary winding of the 1182M12 is rated 12V @ 3.33A. Connected in parallel, the secondaries deliver 12V @ 6.66A; connected in series they deliver 24V C.T. @ 3.33A, providing a centre tap. Voltage regulation is listed at 9.70% in the series ordering table. Units are designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included.

The toroidal core shape gives a low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, with low stray magnetic flux leakage for low EMI. This unit has an open toroid centre (dimension reference D), is manufactured using Class B (130 °C) materials and weighs 2.18 lb +/- 4% according to its drawing, with a listed shipping weight of 2.25 lbs (1.02 kg).

For installation, the 1182M12 ships with two 0.062 in thick x 2.50 in OD rubber washers, one 18 ga x 2.375 in OD steel mounting washer and one 10-24 bolt, 2.00 in long, with lock washer and 10-24 hex nut. Primary leads are #20 TEW and secondary leads are #18 TEW, all brought out 8 to 9 in and stripped 0.5 in minimum. Because toroids can draw high magnetizing current when first energized, the manufacturer recommends a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or other soft-start circuitry on the supply line.

The 1182 Series is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (file E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and #66.2-6 (file 209651), and hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS between primary and secondary. This part is RoHS and REACH compliant and is made in Canada.
