Hammond 1182L240 500 VA Toroid Power Transformer, 240V Single Secondary

The 1182L240 is a 500 VA toroidal power transformer in the 1182 Series with a dual 117/234 VAC, 50/60 Hz primary and a single 240V secondary rated 2.08A. It is aimed at OEM engineers, panel builders and service technicians who need a 240V output from either 117 VAC or 234 VAC mains, using one part for both supply voltages.

Unlike the dual-secondary models in the series, the 1182L240 has one secondary winding, brought out on the red and blue leads (1x 240V @ 2.08A RED-BLU). The primary is split into two 117 V windings (BLK-WHT and BRN-ORN) that are connected in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC. Voltage regulation is listed at 4.80%.

The toroidal core shape gives a low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, with low stray magnetic flux leakage for low EMI. This unit has an open toroid centre (dimension reference I), is manufactured using Class B (130 °C) materials and weighs 8.75 lb +/- 4% according to its drawing, with a listed shipping weight of 7.75 lbs (3.52 kg).

For installation, the 1182L240 ships with two 0.093 in thick x 4.75 in OD rubber washers, one 16 ga x 4.30 in OD steel mounting washer and one 1/4-20 bolt, 3.00 in long, with lock washer and 1/4-20 hex nut. Primary leads are #18 TEW and secondary leads are #18 TEW, all brought out 8 to 9 in and stripped 0.5 in minimum. Because toroids can draw high magnetizing current when first energized, the manufacturer recommends a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or other soft-start circuitry on the supply line.

The 1182 Series is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (file E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and #66.2-6 (file 209651), and hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS between primary and secondary. This part is RoHS and REACH compliant and is made in Canada.
