Hammond 1182L12 50 VA Toroid Transformer, Dual 12V Secondaries

The 1182L12 is a 50 VA toroid power transformer from the 1182 Series, built for control, instrumentation and electronics builders who need a quiet low-voltage supply. Its dual 117/234 VAC primary operates at 50/60 Hz, and the toroidal core shape gives the series its low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, with low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI).

Two 12 V secondary windings (RED-BLU and GRY-YEL, each 2.08A) let you choose the output: connected in series they deliver 24V C.T. @ 2.08A, connected in parallel they deliver 12V @ 4.16A. The two 117 V primaries (BLK-WHT and BRN-ORN) are paralleled for 117 V or series-connected for 234 V. Units are designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer. Voltage regulation is 12.60%; the toroid has an open center (dimension reference C).

The 1182L12 is manufactured using Class B (130 °C) materials and is hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC between primary and secondary, with 600 V tests primary-to-primary and secondary-to-secondary. All leads exit 8"-9" long and are stripped 0.5" minimum; both primary and secondary leads are #20 TEW wire. It is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (file E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and #66.2-6 (file 209651), and RoHS and REACH compliant.

Mounting hardware is supplied: two 0.062" thick x 2.50" OD rubber washers, one 18 gauge x 2.375" OD steel mounting washer, and one 10-24 bolt 2.00" long with a lock washer and 10-24 hex nut. Drawing weight is 1.64 lbs +/- 4%; shipping weight is 1.75 lbs (0.79 kg). Because toroids can draw high magnetizing current at switch-on, the manufacturer recommends a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed breaker or soft-start circuitry on the supply line.
