HWC vs. HWM Swing-Out Wall-Mount Rack Cabinets
Which Hammond swing-out wall-mount cabinet is right for your installation?
The Hammond HWC and HWM Series are heavy-duty swing-out wall-mount rack cabinets designed for network, telecom, security, AV and communications equipment. Both provide rear equipment access, UL2416 listing, a 350 lb static load rating and a 200 lb seismic load rating.
While the two series serve many of the same applications, their size options and configurations make each better suited to different installations.
HWC vs. HWM at a glance
Choose the HWC Series when you need greater configuration flexibility
The HWC Series is the better choice when cabinet depth, width or door configuration is a major part of the application.
Available in both 24" and 30" widths, the HWC provides additional space around the 19" equipment mounting area for cable routing and accessories. The 30" wide versions are particularly useful for installations where higher cable density, power distribution or additional rack-mounted cable management is required.
With usable equipment depths up to 32.5", the HWC also accommodates deeper network and communications equipment than the HWM.
HWC Series advantages
Choose the HWC Series when equipment depth, cable capacity or configurable door options are the priority.
- ■24" or 30" cabinet widths provide greater installation flexibility.
- ■Up to 32.5" of usable equipment depth supports deeper rack-mounted equipment.
- ■Select from solid, vented or window doors based on the application.
- ■HWCF dust-resistant kit available.
- ■Positive-pressure filtered fan door option is available on select 12U configurations.
- ■30" wide models provide additional space for cable management and power distribution accessories.
- ■Available in 12U, 18U and 27U sizes.
Choose the HWM Series for a traditional, ready-configured wall-mount cabinet
The HWM Series is an excellent choice for network closets, telecom rooms and other installations where a conventional 24" wide swing-out cabinet provides the required space.
HWM models are available in a broader range of rack heights, extending from 12U through 32U, making the series particularly useful when greater vertical equipment capacity is required.
Its reversible cabinet body allows the swing direction to be changed in the field, while the heavy-duty spring-hinge mechanism provides controlled access to the rear of installed equipment.
HWM Series advantages
Choose the HWM Series when you want a traditional 24" wide cabinet, taller rack-unit options or field-reversible swing access.
- ■Available in 12U, 20U, 24U and 32U configurations.
- ■Vented or window door configurations simplify cabinet selection.
- ■Available in black or white.
- ■Optional rear panel for pole mounting applications.
- ■Up to 28.85" of usable equipment depth.
- ■24" cabinet width fits traditional network and telecommunications spaces.
What the HWC and HWM have in common
Regardless of which series you select, both are designed for demanding wall-mounted network and communications applications.
Both series provide:
- ■UL2416 listed 350 lb equipment capacity.
- ■Seismic rating to 200 lb dynamic load.
- ■Swing-out construction for rear equipment and cable access.
- ■Adjustable 10-32 threaded equipment mounting rails.
- ■Standard 19" rack equipment compatibility.

Choose HWM if you need:
- ■Pole mounting options.
- ■Deeper equipment mounting.
- ■Active rear-exhaust (chimney).
- ■A 30" wide cabinet.
- ■Additional side space for cable management or power distribution.
- ■Solid, vented or window door flexibility.
- ■A filtered positive-pressure configuration on select sizes.
- ■12U, 18U or 27U rack capacity.
- ■A conventional 24" wide wall cabinet.
- ■20U, 24U or 32U rack capacity.
- ■A vented or window door configuration.
- ■Field-reversible cabinet swing direction.
- ■A more traditional wall-mount network cabinet configuration.
Still not sure which cabinet you need?
Equipment depth is often the easiest place to start. If your equipment or cabling requires more than approximately 29" of usable depth, the deeper HWC configurations provide up to 32.5".
Next, consider rack height and cabinet width. The HWM offers configurations up to 32U in a 24" wide cabinet, while the HWC provides up to 27U with the option of a wider 30" cabinet for additional cable and accessory space.
Both provide the same 350 lb UL2416 and 200 lb seismic ratings, so you can select the cabinet configuration that best matches the equipment and installation rather than sacrificing structural performance.
A last note. The features of the HWM will be combined with the HWC in 2027 providing the best of both to eliminate the need for both cabinets.
